Town of Jay
Comprehensive Plan Update
The Town of Jay has received DEC Smart Growth grant funding for a Comprehensive Plan update.
The Town has formed a Comprehensive Plan Special Board (CPSB) to create the Comprehensive Plan update. The Town has hired a consultant to help facilitate the process, which will include public engagement, workshops, committee meetings, existing conditions report, inventory and analysis of existing and future land use; demographics and economic characteristics; natural systems and environmental resources; public facilities and services; recreation; and housing needs.
The updated Comprehensive Plan will provide recommendations, implementation strategies, and a comprehensive set of maps. The Town’s existing Plan, written in 1980 and last updated in 1997, does not adequately address the community’s current opportunities, needs, and challenges. The anticipated outcome is a planning document that incorporates Smart Growth principles, addresses existing resources, outlines priorities for future development, and better reflects the vision the current population has for this Adirondack community.
